Day 1 : Turtle Island

Day 2 : Gomantong Cave/Sandakan
SANDAKAN Situated by a beautiful,
natural deepwater bay, Sandakan was formerly the
administrative capital of British North Borneo. At
one time, timber was the major export but this is
now supplanted by the oil palm industry. With world
famous Sepilok, the first Orang Utan Sanctuary,
Sandakan plays host to nature lovers who can also
visit Selingan, one of the Turtle Islands 1 hours
away from the town as well as Sukau, in the upper
reaches of the Kinabatangan River where primates,
especially the proboscis monkeys (endemic only to
Borneo) are easily sighted.
Detail Itinerary
Day 1 : Turtle Island (L,D)
Meet at Sandakan airport upon arrival from MH2042
ETA 0740hrs. Transfer to jetty for 1 hours boat ride
to Selingan Island. Check-in at Chalet and lunch at
Selingan cafeteria. Free at leisure, you can swim or
snorkel around the island. In the evening, two
species of marine turtles – the green and hawksbill
come ashore here to lay their eggs. After dinner,
witness the laying of eggs and the release of turtle
hatchling to the sea. Overnight at Chalet.
Day 2 : Sepilok Orang Utan/Sukau Proboscis Monkeys
(Kinabatangan River)
0700am return
to Sandakan by boat and proceed to Sepilok Orang
Utan rehabilitation Centre. Orphaned and injured
Orang Utan are brought to Sepilok to be
rehabilitated to return to forest life. Sepilok is a
primary lowland forest, a fine showcase of Borneo’s
remaining rain forest. Witness the feeding of Orang
Utan from a platform in the forest. Watch the
scheduled video documentary show at the Sepilok
Information building. The 20 minutes video show will
give you an insight of the Orang utan
rehabilitation process and its threats to survival.
After your morning
affair with the Orang Utan, you will depart overland
for 2.5 hours journey to Sukau. Check-in and lunch
at Sri Menanggol Cabins. In late afternoon, proceed
for river cruise to the Menanggol River, a tributary
of Kinabatangan River to search for wildlife,
including the unique Proboscis monkey, hornbills,
kingfishers and many others. The Kinabatangan
Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best places in
Southeast Asia to observe wildlife. Overnight at Sri
Menanggol Cabins.
Day 3 : Gomantong Cave/Sandakan (B,L)
After breakfast, 0730hrs depart for Gomantong cave,
the drive will take 30 minutes. Upon arrival, take a
15 minutes walk to the cave, the short jungle walk
will take you to the unique limestone vegetation and
lowland forest, here you can observe birds and
primates. Explore one of the fascinating cave in
Sabah, the cave is home to the millions of bats and
swiftlets. The swiflets are collected for famous
Chinese edible bird’s nest soup. After exploring the
cave, return to Sandakan to visit Puj Jih Sih
Chinese temple, located 300m above sea level. Here
you can see the colorful interior carvings and
decoration of this magnificent temple with a
commanding view of Sandakan bay. Proceed for lunch
at local restaurant. Drive around Sandakan town and
see the busy street and market, proceed to Sim Sim
water village where you can see houses on stilt
occupied by the local Chinese and Malay people.
Transfer to Sandakan airport for your return flight
to Kota Kinabalu at MH2705 1515hrs.

What to bring :
Raincoat, hat, insect repellent, sun lotion, swim
wear, towel, drinking water, torch, toiletries &
items of personal use. Use good walking shoes.

Remarks:
1. Please take note that Sabah Parks authority does
only allow use of camera with unaided flash to take
photographs of the turtles at Selingan Island.
Use of video / digital video cameras are not allowed
to photograph the turtles.
2. Sabah Parks authority does forbid visitors from
roaming the beach of Selingan Island on their own
from 06.00 p.m. - 06.00 a.m.
