Itinerary in brief

SANDAKAN Situated by a beautiful, natural deepwater bay, Sandakan was formerly the administrative capital of British North Borneo. At one time, timber was the major export but this is now supplanted by the oil palm industry. With world famous Sepilok, the first Orang Utan Sanctuary, Sandakan plays host to nature lovers who can also visit Selingan, one of the Turtle Islands 1 hours away from the town as well as Sukau, in the upper reaches of the Kinabatangan River where primates, especially the proboscis monkeys (endemic only to Borneo) are easily sighted.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1 : Turtle Island (L,D)
Meet at Sandakan airport upon arrival from MH2042 ETA 0740hrs. Transfer to jetty for 1 hours boat ride to Selingan Island. Check-in at Chalet and lunch at Selingan cafeteria. Free at leisure, you can swim or snorkel around the island. In the evening, two species of marine turtles – the green and hawksbill come ashore here to lay their eggs. After dinner, witness the laying of eggs and the release of turtle hatchling to the sea. Overnight at Chalet.

Day 2 : Sepilok Orang Utan/Sukau Proboscis Monkeys (Kinabatangan River)

Sepilok is a primary lowland forest, a fine showcase of Borneo’s remaining rain forest. Witness the feeding of Orang Utan from a platform in the forest. Watch the scheduled video documentary show at the Sepilok Information building. The 20 minutes video show will give you an insight of the Orang utan  rehabilitation process and its threats to survival.   After your morning
affair with the Orang Utan, you will depart overland for 2.5 hours journey to Sukau. Check-in and lunch at Sri Menanggol Cabins. In late afternoon, proceed for river cruise to the Menanggol River, a tributary of Kinabatangan River to search for wildlife, including the unique Proboscis monkey, hornbills, kingfishers and many others. The Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best places in Southeast Asia to observe wildlife. Overnight at Sri Menanggol Cabins.
