DAY 1 : Mandalay-Moniwa-Chindwin
River Cruise (Lunch, Dinner)
Leave Mandalay for a three hour drive to Moniwa, a
typical Burmese town on the Chindwin River. The Chindwin
is the most scenic of Myanmar's rivers with richly
forested banks tumbling into the fast muddy waters.
Cross the Chindwin River by boat and proceed by local
open jeep to Po Win Daung. This extraordinary complex
consists of 947 sandstone caves dug out of the hills and
contains what is considered by archaeologists to be the
richest collection of mural paintings and Buddhist
statues in South-East Asia. Recently opened to overseas
visitors, Po Win Daung with its unique Buddha images and
precious frescoes some dating from the early 17th
century, is a must to see for anyone with an interest in
Buddhist arts. Board the Malikha Beauty, a simple but
comfortable cruise boat accommodating up to 14
passengers in air-conditioned twin cabins. Overnight on
board.
DAY 2 : Chindwin River Cruise (B, L, D)
Cruise downstream along the Chindwin River stopping off
to visit the small riverside town of Yesagyo and
Shwetantint, an ancient pagoda. Overnight on board.
DAY 3 : Chindwin River and Irrawaddy Cruise-Bagan (B, L)
Continue on the journey downstream the point where the
Chindwin and Irrawaddy rivers meet just before Pakokku.
Explore Pakokku in a shore excursion by local trishaw.
This typical Burmese city has a strong craftwork
tradition producing colourful woven blankets,
