This tour starts in the northernmost province of Chiang Rai, which includes the famous Golden Triangle area. Later you will travel in a long tail boat up the scenic Mae Kok River to Thaton until you reach the hill top resort at Doi Angkhang. Then the route follows through the mountain wilderness along the Burmese border before you will arrive in the northern capital of Chiang Mai. During this tour you will stay at some of the finest hotels/resorts in the north of Thailand.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1 - Chiang Rai Arrival
Upon arrival transfer to the hotel. Time to relax at the nice hotel/resort or just explore the city by yourself. In the evening take the chance to visit the little, but colorful night- and food market.

Day 2 - Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai (B,L)
After breakfast, travel to the north. Take a side trip to Doi Tung Mountain. Visit the royal garden, the hill top temple, as well as an Akha hill tribe village. Go on to Mae Sai, the market- and border town. An optional visit to the Burmese border town of Tachilek can be arranged (one day border pass available). Continue to the famous Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (Burma) meet. Then have a quick look in to the small Opium Museum. Then take a boat trip on the Mekong River to the former royal town of Chiang Saen. It does incl. a stop at the Laotian river island of Don Sao as well. You will be back in Chiang Rai late afternoon. If you wish to do so and time does allow, then take a short visit to Wat Rong Khun (the white temple).

Day 3 Chiang Rai - Doi Angkhang (B,L)
In the morning enjoy a scenic trip by long tail boat up the Kok River. Take some brief stops on route, such as at a small elephant camp, at some hot springs, but also at a Lahu hill tribe village. Reach the Shan village of Ban Mai and continue on the road to Thaton. Visit Wat Thaton with its giant Buddha images and enjoy the great views. Then continue up to the hill top of Doi Angkhang. Visit the royal farming project and one of the rare Palong hill tribe villages.

Day 4 - Doi Angkhang - Chiang Mai (B,L)
Drive through the mountain wilderness along the Burmese border and see some remote villages. Arrive the Ping Valley near Chiang Dao, where you visit the local cave temple. Travel on towards Chiang Mai. On route take some brief stops, for example at a local countryside market and at an orchid farm. Arrive Chiang Mai in the afternoon. If you wish to do so and time allows, then you got the opportunity for some sightseeing in the northern capital.

Day 5 - Chiang Mai - Departure (B)
Transfer to the airport or railway station, depends on your further schedule.
