A fascinating cycling holiday on
the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Vietnam.
By mountain bike is the perfect way to explore
the
Ho
Chi Minh Trail and northern
Vietnam. Cycling on quiet roads and
tracks through traditional villages, this
exciting cycling holiday explores the remote and
previously inaccessible northern part of the
Ho
Chi Minh Trail. En route, we cycle
to the spectacular scenery and caves of the
Phong Nha National Park and see numerous
fascinating relics of the
Vietnam War, such as the combat base
at
Khe
Sanh. Other highlights we cycle to
include the ‘Imperial City’ of
Hue, a perfect place to relax at the
end of this great cycling holiday in
Vietnam.
Quang Binh launches
ecotourism tour
Visitors both inside and outside the country
now will have the opportunity to explore the
Nuoc Mooc ecotourism site that opened in the
central province of Quang Binh on August 31.
Around 30 km far from the centre
of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, a world
natural heritage, Nuoc Mooc boasts spectacular
natural landscapes such as the Gio (Wind)
waterfall and other ecotourism potentials.
The same day, a drive was
launched at the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park
to call on the local people and holidaymakers to
vote for the park as one of the world’s natural
wonders.
Local authorities expects the
drive will help promote the image of Quang
Binh’s people and historic land, particularly
the park’s potentials, for the better protection
of the world heritage with verity active from

Open Charity
Challenges
What is an Open
Challenge?
Perfect for individuals, small groups and
smaller charitable organizations, Open Charity
Challenges offer you the chance to join a group
challenge and raise money for a charity of your
choice. With a lower minimum fundraising target
and the same superb range of exotic
destinations, Open Challenges are proving
increasingly popular. For you, the open
challenges are a fantastic way to support a
cause close to your heart. For your chosen
charity, provided they are happy for you to
raise a minimum of US$200 or event more (paid
directly to the charity) on an overseas
challenge they simply need to support your
fundraising where necessary. This would involve
offering advice and materials and ensuring that
they receive your minimum sponsorship either by
our recommended deadline date or on a date
agreed by the Charity.
Our Open Challenges are designed so that the
tour cost is (paid directly to the charity)
ensuring that it is clear to both the charity
and your sponsors where their money is going!
While we only require evidence of a minimum of
US$200 sponsorship for our challenges, should
you choose to fundraise for the total amount
(including the tour cost) we would encourage you
to increase your sponsorship target to match the
cost of the trip. This will enable you to
reassure your sponsors that at least 30% of
their donation goes directly to the Charity.
Some Other Information?
- For large donations, please
contact us or consult your tour
guide/leader for appropriate projects that we
currently support or we can help guiding the
donations to the right people.
- For small donations, please ask your tour
guide/leader to help contacting community
chiefs, school headmasters, teachers, local
doctors, charity organizations...your donations
are best distributed through these channels.
- Money may not be the best donation you can
think of, when visiting hill tribe villages,
essentials like pens, notebooks, clothes...are
highly appreciated.
- Please note that you are expected to give a
small donation when visiting temples, pagodas or
religious sites. There are always donation boxes
at these places for the purpose.
- Avoid having the feeling that you need to give
some ''material' things to please the host,
friendship can be achieved through
conversations, sharing knowledge, jokes…

11 Day 10 Night Bike and Kayak
Tour (Option02)
Detail Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau
We leave for Mai Chau very early. Arriving at
lunchtime, enjoy a cooked lunch at a local Tai
village house before setting off along a
spectacularly beautiful river valley towards Hoi
Xuan along an undulating tarmac road. (Old
highway 15A) The road follows the flow of River
Song Ma. This is an old supply route of the HCM
Trail that fed the main trail with ammunitions
during the American War with Vietnam. Overnight
at the edge of Pu Luong Nature Reserve in a
traditional Thai village homestay, part of an
ecotourist community project set up by Fauna and
Flora International in 2003. Overnight village
house on stilts. 25 km.
(B/ L/ D)
Day 2: Pu Luong Nature
Reserve - Ngoc Lac
An early morning start to beat the heat of the
day. The route takes us away from the river and
appears to contour through the same range of
mountains that stretch from Mai Chau to Cuc
Phuong to Hoa Lu. The road gets more beautiful
the closer you ride to Ngoc Lac with looming
karst limestone cliffs and lush vegetation. The
route is tarmac all the way, but quite hard
riding due to the undulating terrain. Overnight
in local hotel Ngoc Lac. 70 km.
(B/ L/ D)
Day 3: Ngoc Lac - Thai Hoa
Ride for the first time on the newly built two
lane Ho Chi Minh Highway. It hardly warrants two
lanes as there is no traffic! The road makes for
smooth fast riding, and for those who prefer
there is always the old highway dirt and gravel
- that weaves around the new highway allowing
for plenty of exploring possibilities along the
way.
Ride to Muc Son, on the banks of River Song Chu.
On the outskirts of this small town are the
famous Kan Linh historical relics - a pagoda
where the first king of the Ly dynasty, Le Thai
To, ruled, in 1428. Continue riding on the trail
to Yen Cat. The distance covered today is quite
long and there will be the chance to transfer
some sections by the back-up vehicle to rest
weary legs. There are fewer villages today as the
route cuts through forests and jungle. Picnic
lunch en route. Overnight Thai Hoa guesthouse.
80+ km.
(B/ L/ D)
Day 4: Thai Hoa - Nghe An
Continue riding the incredible Ho Chi Minh
Trail. Have lunch in Lat town. In Kim Lean visit
the famous museum and birthplace of Ho Chi Minh
in 1890. This province has a reputation for
producing charismatic revolutionary leaders; not
only Ho Chi Minh but also Phan Boi Chau –
another fervent anti colonialist -was born here.
Overnight in Nghe An Town. 100 km.
(B/ L/ D)
Day 5: Nghe An - Huong Khe
After a relaxing breakfast continue riding on
the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The trail is still a
dream to ride on. Again there is virtually no
traffic. Transfer if tired in the afternoon to
Huong Khe for overnight in a local guesthouse.
80 km.
(B/ L/ D)
Day 6: Huong Khe - Phong Nha
National Park
From Huong Khe the mountains rise and the road
winds up, down and along the hillsides. The
scenery is spectacular, the road tranquil. Ride
up to 80km then transfer the last few km to
Phong Nha National Park. The park contains one
of the most spectacular caves in Vietnam, It is
a true speleological wonder. Visit the cave by
boat then wander through the cavern, past the
foundations of ancient Cham ruins. Pause to
admire the incredible formation of stalactites
and stalagmites. Formed approximately 250
million years ago Phong Nha was used as a
hospital and ammunition depot during the war,
the entrance still showing evidence of fighter
aircraft attacks. There are community projects
underway with Flora and Fauna International and
it may be possible to visit village initiatives
and learn more about the forests of the National
Park. Overnight at the National Park. 80 km.
(B/ L/ D)
Day 7: Phong Nha - Chay Lap
Village
Travel from Phong Nha to Chay Lap
Village in the morning, before leaving for an
afternoon biking and trekking excursion into the
park. Bike to the Nuoc Mooc Cold Spring
and Eco-Trail for a guided hike and a refreshing
swim in the cold spring. Along the bike
route home you may be able to see families of
the endangered Ha Tinh Langur primates. In
the evening, witness the music, dance, and
costumed drama of a traditional Tuong Opera.
(B/ L/ D)
Day 8 Chay Lap
Village - Dong Hoi
After a peaceful night
in a traditional house with modern conveniences,
jump into a kayak and paddle along the clear
blue Chay River that cuts a ravine through the
jungle draped limestone karst mountains. Paddle
into the expansive mouth of the Dark Cave to
peer into its shadowy inner caverns. After
returning to Chay Lap, learn to cook a
traditional Vietnamese meal before taking an
underground river dragon boat tour into Phong
Nha Cave. Return to Dong Hoi in the late
afternoon. (B/ L/ D)
Day 9:
Dong Hoi - Dong Ha -Vinh Moc - Dong Ha
Today we continue south along Highway 1 using
both our bicycles and our support vehicle. We
reach the town of Dong Ha where we stay for the
night. In reaching Dong Ha we pass through the
DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), scene of some of the
bitterest fighting during the American War. Here
we will visit Vinh Moc tunnels to see at first
hand how the Viet Cong fought. The stretch of
tunnels runs for nearly 3km and have not been
altered for the tourists benefit. (B/ L/ D)
Day 10:
Dong Ha - Hue
Today we drive to the former Imperial capital
and cultural centre of Vietnam, Hue. After all
check-in formalities are done, we set out our
bike and explore this ancient city. (B/ L/ D)
Day 11:
Depart Hue
The tour ends after breakfast.
